Baumstumpf Holz Projekte

For woodworkers, wood carvers and sculptors, logs can present an intriguing canvas for woodworking projects. Tree trunks can be used for beams, columns, manuscripts, chainsaw-carved statues or tables and stools. Always wear safety glasses and work gloves when cutting or carving a tree stump.

Stump wood projects

Let the stump dry in the sun before using it for a wood project.

Treatment
The stump should be dry before you work on it. A freshly cut tree trunk may take several weeks to dry by itself. First, strip the bark by stripping with a sharp ax without damaging the wood beneath. Keep the floor above the ground and in direct sunlight, turning every few days to prevent moisture from rotting the wood. It is natural for the stump to crack as it dries. Cracks and holes can be filled with wood filler. Two layers of wood primer if you want to paint the stump.

Table
A dry tree stump to make a nice table. Design on an electric sander to make it top of the table with course sandpaper level and remove the chain saw or ax cuts left. Once the table is flat, change to medium sandpaper, then fine sandpaper. You can mount legs on the table using three Thrust bearings, are arranged evenly on the floor. Paint or stain the stump is finished as desired with exterior grade, or seal it with wood sealer.

Bird Bath
A stump can also serve as external device, such as an integrated bird bath use. Draw a circle in the middle of a flat stump by tying a string to a pencil and stapling the end of the string in the middle of the stump. Cut furrows in the trunk inside the circle with a circular saw about 0.5 cm apart. Then remove the wood between the cuts with a chisel. Keep cutting and chiseling until you have cut a concave dish. Treat the stump with wood sealant or cap with concrete.

Sculptures
Logs of all shapes and sizes can be used for sculpture. Large logs can be formed with a chainsaw; small, delicate works can be sculpted with wood carving chisels. Search designs be natural for the shape of the hull. Draw sketches of your design on paper, then cover the back of the paper design with charcoal and trace the design onto the wood. The strains can be left outdoors to decorate the garden, or placed serve as decorative columns, tables or shelves inside.
So concentrate on something of value, the creativity and the use of our mind is therapeutically. It provides for the separation of concerns lengthy, because the time to process the fears of normal daily activities, tasks, and the life. Building small wood projects is one of many therapeutic activities. It is an easy and inexpensive way to deal with stress, while fortunately manufacturing fun little items.

I describe below a very simple method to mill such grooves, which does not require high technology and delivers perfect results.

Since I currently do not build furniture, where do I need such a construction, I show the procedure to some remnants of beech laminated wood.

Passt perfekt
First, the groove position is marked precisely. If in this example would be the groove used for a false floor, it does not matter whether one anzeichnet the top or bottom edge. You just have to be considered only in accordance with what has been characterized in the further course.
Ein Brett mit einer geraden Kante wird möglichst genau auf dem Strich ausgerichtet
A board with a straight edge is aligned as closely as possible to the bottom line

Just on the line you now spans a board with a straight and clean cut edge. The material thickness of the board should be more than 12mm. Something can be found as always. In this case, it is a remnant of 18mm multiplex. For exact alignment is a universal fine a position to use: The Hammer. With this, the board edge can be aligned very closely on the line. Is everything that previously only lightly tightened clamps are pulled neatly laid.

Das Brett wird mit Schraubzwingen fixiert
The board is fixed with clamps

Die Universal- Feineinstellung: Ein Hammer
The universal fine adjustment: A Hammer

At the edge of the board you now provides the einzunutende board, for example, a middle ground. A second board, as thick as the first applied to the upright floorboard and also fixed with clamps. Is the board upright slightly crooked, you push it to the second board straight.

Das einzunutende Brett wird an die Anschlagkante gestellt
The board is placed on the stop edge

Ein zweites Brett mit gerader Kante wird wie gezeigt fixiert
A second board with straight edge is fixed as shown

Now is milled. The real trick is the router used. You need a trim bits with overhead ball bearings. This one drives from the board edges and so transmits the exact dimensions of the false floor on the side wall. which spanned boards serve as splinter protection and ensure a splinter edge.

Ein Bündigfräser mit obenliegendem Anlaufring fräst die Nut
A trim bits with overhead thrust ring mills the groove

Die beiden Brettkanten bilden den Anschlag für die Oberfräse
The two board edges form the stop for the router

Die fertig gefräste, ausrissfreie Nut
The finished milled, splinter groove

I have now several of these mills and use them very much for such things. If you have no router with appropriate length, takes you thicker, or thinner bulletin boards and balances the cutter length thus accordingly.

The results, which are achieved are so accurate that you should pre-grinding the items only roughly necessarily before milling. Otherwise, the Grooved board gets back unnecessary air.

A perfect fit

1. Arbeitsschritt
1st step
First, attach the plinth panels on the bottom plate corpus. At the back of the plinth panels are mounted flush, the front of the base returns to 2 cm. Screwing takes place from above through the base plate with 3 Universal screws (4,0 x 40 mm). Put The outer holes 10 cm inwards, the third hole set centrally between. Do not forget to always be pre-drilled and to reduce. Now place the two side pieces flush with the rear edge of the bottom plate. Bring each connecting fittings 3 lt. Packing Instructions on to connect the finished floor to the side parts. Connect the base plate fixed to the two sides, while paying attention to the squareness.

2. Arbeitsschritt
2. step
Then insert the cover plate is flush with the rear and side edge. Also bring here each connecting fittings 3 lt. Packing Instructions on to connect the top plate to the side parts. Measure from the top edge to a lateral distance of 5 cm. The third hole is drilled in the center between them. Now you can use the rear panel with 22 Universal screws (4,0 x 40 mm) screw from the back with the body. Put the screws circumferentially uniform.

3. Arbeitsschritt
3. step
The slide rails set flush against the rear wall and the side parts of the body. The distance between the slide rails to the cover plate A is 4.5 cm. Ensure that the sides of the slide rails protrude as a bearing surface 2 cm into the body. Fix the slide rails with 2 universal screws (4,0 x 40 mm) with a lateral distance of 5 cm. Set the short thrust sides mutually aligned between the long sides of the thrust secret compartment. Gluing the contacting surfaces of the thrust side and screw the individual parts, each with 1 Universal screws (4,0 x 40 mm). Then insert the caps on the screw heads. Now you can attach the bottom plate of the secret compartment from below with the resulting frame with 14 Universal screws (3.5 x 25 mm).

4. Arbeitsschritt
4. step
The three drawers are mounted according to the same system as above. For the top drawer you put the short side thrust on all sides between the long flush push pages. Gluing the contacting surfaces of the thrust side and screw the items with 2 universal screws (4,0 x 40 mm). You can then attach (25 mm x 3.5), the bottom plate from below through the floor in the resulting frame with 14 Universal screws. The assembly of the middle and lower drawer is also carried out according to this principle. To do this, two short sides push all sides flush between two long sides of thrust. Gluing the contacting surfaces of the thrust side and screw each the items of the push pages with 2 universal screws (4,0 x 40 mm). Then attach the floor panels of the drawers from the bottom through the floors in the resulting frame with 14 Universal screws (3.5 x 25 mm).

5. Arbeitsschritt
5. step
For a subdivision of the middle drawer make the two middle parts as desired upright in the drawer. Screw both parts of the front and rear with 2 x Universal screws (4,0 x 40 mm).

6. Arbeitsschritt
6. step
Now you can attach the Drawer runners on the carcass and the drawers. Proceed as follows: For the guides on the side panels you always measure from the top edge of the base plate body to the lower edge of the rolling shear guide each 2 cm, 26 cm and 50 cm from. Screw the thrust roller guide with 3 Universal screws (3.5 x 25 mm).

7. Arbeitsschritt
7. step
The counterparts of the rolling shear leadership you bring to flush with the rear and bottom of the finished drawers. Fasten these with 3 Universal screws (3.5 x 25 mm) on the drawer. Then push all the drawers and the secret compartment in the body.

8. Arbeitsschritt
8. Working Step
To assemble the drawer fronts set the finished body incl. Drawers on the back of the rear wall. Label the fronts of the drawers (except secret compartment) with mounting glue and insert the drawer fronts on the drawers on. Align the distances with the aid of plastic wedges like that encircling a uniform distance arises. Also remember the spaces between the drawer fronts. Please refer to the drying time of the adhesive assembly.

9. Arbeitsschritt
9. step
After drying, you can set up the sideboard again and remove the wedges. Then attach the drawer fronts from the inside in addition with 6 Universal screws (3.5 x 25 mm). The finger holes are drilled with 25 mm Forstner bit from the outside, eg. As the center of the drawer fronts, drawer fronts and through the front of the drawer sides. Do not forget, then to paint the inside of the finger holes. Finished!

16 x connecting bolts
1 x chipboard (762 x 376 x 19 mm), rear wall
1. Arbeitsschritt
1st step
Take the side panels and drill these before. On the left side the holes are superposed and have a lateral distance of 30 mm. The first hole is 50 mm, the second at 140 mm measured from the top and the third at 10 mm from the bottom edge.

2. Arbeitsschritt
2. step
On the right side of the side part and 3 holes for mounting the rear wall and the floor will be carried out. These have a lateral distance of 10 mm, 2 of which are located at 50 mm from the corner and is located at 50 mm from the top. Please take care when drilling that it even is a left and a right side part.

3. Arbeitsschritt
3. step
Now make the holes in the rear wall. Measure 150 mm from the side edges and 170 mm from the top down, set a flag and then drill at these points by.

4. Arbeitsschritt
4. step
In order to fasten the bezel to the intermediate floor are the left and right starting measured from the corners of the intermediate base 30 mm and made holes.

5. Arbeitsschritt
5. step
Then measure 20 mm from the outer edge of the intermediate bottom, then reinstall the panel and fix the position using the angle clamps. Before the two parts are screwed together, the diaphragm is easily drilled through the predrilled holes in the false floor. This splintering of the disc is avoided. Now the panel is screwed by means of 2 connection bolts to the intermediate base.

6. Arbeitsschritt
6. step
Place the side panel on the bottom part and fix both by using the angle clamps. Pay attention to the squareness and the position of the pre-drilled holes. Before screwing, drill through the pre-holes before the depth of the connecting bolts in the center of the bottom board part. Fix the side panel using 2 connecting bolts.

7. Arbeitsschritt
7. step
Now, the back wall is placed on the bottom part, fixed to the side panel with angle clamps and both aligned at right angles. The depth of the connecting bolts is then through the pre-drilled holes in the side panel pre-drilled in the board middle of the back wall and screwed by means of this 2 x connecting bolts. Now the second side part is attached as in the first to the rear wall.
8. Arbeitsschritt
8. Working Step
Now measure on the side parts each of the top edge 160 mm from and draw marks on the fixing of the intermediate bottom. Insert the finished construction of the false floor and the panel and fix it by means of angle clamps. Now you drill through the prefabricated holes the depth of the connecting bolts in the center of the board to be screwed parts. Then fix all the parts together by means of connecting bolts. Always pay attention to the squareness.

9. Arbeitsschritt
9. step
Place the rod hinge centrally on the upper edge of the rear wall and stand on the positions of the hinge. Then fix this on the lid and the rear wall. Make sure that the edges of the cover are flush in the viewing area.

10. Arbeitsschritt
10th step
If desired, you can construct variable shelf inserts, thus creating additional storage space. For this, you drill 2 holes on the side panels and at a distance of 50 mm from the edge. Now, the side panels can be attached with 4 universal screws with the cross-piece. Finished!

After I built the wooden storage rack recently was still a solution for smaller wood remains necessary - a box with roller wheels.

Holzreste_10

And was built in the whole course of  it again is about to see an "end furniture," was in the construction especially fast and easy to design in the tender documents. So no complicated connections but simply glue and screws.
Holzreste_01
Material came several OSB board remains in 22 mm and 18mm thickness is used, the more of a variety of projects such as Cabinets in the System 32 were left.
Hence the weight of the case has shown: 60 cm high, 60 cm wide and 95 cm long. The sawing I have done with the portable circular saw and guide rail, since the parts but are quite unwieldy.

It is mounted on two trestles. So you get easily to all sites to be screwed. The parts were glued and fixed with clamps, then bolted together with plenty ASSY screw 4 * 50. To mount the intermediate divider, this was placed and bolted to a bucket. Bucket take out, done!

Holzreste_03

Here you can see also the sense of a screw with partial thread. The thread engages below positively, but the top plate has no intervention and is thus used to the lower plate. So there is gap-free connections, provided that the cut edges are clean.

This box is quite heavy, this gets 4 ball-bearing heavy-duty rollers. Each has a load capacity of 60kg - so that the box and its contents 240kg may be difficult without the rolls up her mind.

Holzreste_05

The roles with M5 captive nuts are fastened is driven into the interior with the mallet. The fitting was carried out with allen screws M5 * 30 who still get a washer, so that the head has a larger contact area.

Holzreste_04
The view of the completely assembled roll. Thanks to the continuous screw the roles can not be torn even when driving over small obstacles.

Holzreste_06

Now just put the box on the floor and you can begin with the granting.
Holzreste_07
After sorting the first part but it became clear that there's more partitions are needed. So without further ado sawn two more partitions and fitted. These were just screwed and not glued. So I can change the schedule again, if required.
Holzreste_21

Even the wooden "small stuff" is now housed neatly and clearly. This is the action "finally order" probably a temporary end.
